Archaeoastronomical Site


The Mayans were heavily influenced by astronomy, not only in their culture but in their architecture as well. All of the buildings as Uxmal are 14 degrees East of true North, except the Govornor's Palace. The Governor's Palace's orientation mirrors that of Venus' southerly rise. The ornamentation on the building also relates to Venus, which is what led archaeoastronomers to make the connection.
